Lynsey D. Johnson — California Employment Attorney for Employees
Lynsey D. Johnson is the founder of Counsel at Work, a California employment law practice dedicated to fighting for employees whose workplace rights have been violated. Counsel at Work was founded with one purpose: to fight for employees with the experience, strategy, and dedication their cases deserve.
A Practice Built on Experience From Both Sides
Before founding Counsel at Work, Lynsey represented and advised employers at two nationally recognized defense firms, including a firm ranked among the Am Law 100. Her experience includes representing both employees and employers in individual employment matters as well as complex employment litigation, including class actions and claims brought under California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), in both state and federal court.
Having practiced on both sides of employment litigation, Lynsey brings every client the benefit of a strategic, informed approach that comes from understanding how these cases are evaluated, prepared, and fought from both sides of the table. Understanding how employers and their attorneys assess claims and develop defense strategies provides a meaningful advantage in identifying where their position may be vulnerable and positioning every case for the strongest possible outcome.
Representing Employees Throughout California
Lynsey represents employees throughout California in workplace disputes involving wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower claims, wage and hour violations, breach of contract, and other employment-related matters. Her practice includes individual employment matters, class actions, and PAGA claims, as well as advising employees on employment agreements, severance agreements, compensation issues, and workplace rights.
A Strategic and Client-Centered Approach
Lynsey takes a strategic approach to every matter, analyzing cases from multiple perspectives and developing thoughtful legal strategies tailored to the specific facts, risks, and objectives of each case. She works closely with clients through every stage of the process, whether that means pursuing a negotiated resolution or taking a case to trial. With nearly a decade of legal experience, Lynsey brings a depth of professional perspective that extends well beyond the courtroom.
As the first lawyer in her family, Lynsey took a nontraditional path to the legal profession. After beginning her career in the workforce immediately following high school, she worked throughout her education, earning a B.A. in Politics with honors from the University of San Francisco in 2011 and a J.D. from UC College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings College of the Law) in 2014. Before law school, Lynsey spent approximately 15 years at one of the nation’s largest healthcare organizations, working across multiple departments alongside employees from a wide range of backgrounds. That experience informs a genuine understanding of the practical, financial, and personal pressures that workers face.
Understanding the challenges that employees face, Lynsey takes the time to listen attentively to every client’s concerns, ensuring that their voices are heard and that their stories are told. Clients appreciate her compassionate approach and her ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and relatable way.
Experienced in Courts Throughout California
Lynsey’s legal career has been rooted in both Northern and Southern California. Having been educated and professionally established in the San Francisco Bay Area before expanding her practice to Los Angeles, she maintains deep ties to both regions and regularly practices in both. Lynsey represents employees throughout California in workplace disputes, with litigation experience spanning state and federal courts across the state, including all four United States District Courts in California.
